The Fitness industry is all about people striving for better health and improved quality of life. You will find fitness services provided through commercial sport and recreation centres, commercial health and fitness centres (e.g. gyms), government & corporate sector fitness programs, holiday resorts, hotels and cruise ships, educational institutions, retirement villages and by personal trainers.

Jobs are focused on services and programs that are designed to help people get fitter and healthier through physical activity and exercise. This may include client health assessment, gym programs, group exercise and water-based fitness. Fitness professionals are often very passionate and can choose to work in a variety of settings such as fitness studios and gyms or community and outdoor venues.

Training Options

All qualifications in the Sport, Fitness and Recreation Training Package are suitable for an Australian Apprenticeship pathway. A Sport, Fitness or Recreation traineeship (also called an Australian Apprenticeship) offers you employment and formal training at the same time. You can seek traineeships through advertised jobs or by approaching an organisation and asking to be employed as a trainee. Your chances will be increased if you have a history of participation or volunteering for that group. Entry into the Industry 

There are two fitness industry registration bodies in Australia. To be recognised by either Fitness Australia or Kinetic Australia you need a minimum of the Certificate III in Fitness. Registration as an exercise professional ensures you are covered by liability insurance.
