Retail and Wholesale

The retail sector is the second highest employing sector in the SA economy, marginally behind manufacturing (14.6 % ABS 2001).

The two sub sectors (retail & wholesale) collectively employ about 22% of the workforce or 160,000 South Australians. The retail industry is made up of 97% small businesses (less than 20 employees) and the sector has high levels of part time and casual workers.
