The Adelaide Events Crew: Skills Intensive 2015 is funded by the Department of State Development under the Strategic Employment Fund and facilitated by Service Skills SA (SSSA) working in conjuction with the Adelaide College of the Arts, Festivals Adelaide and the Food Tourism and Hospitality Industry Skills Council.

 January - June 2015

Introduction

The Adelaide Events Crew: Skills Intensive will run from January to June 2015 and is targeting additional skills for 80 participants who are seeking employment or increased employment in the events and related industries.  The project aims to create a greater event-ready workforce for South Australia, and to increase employment prospects for participants.

The project focus is initially on Adelaide based events.

Group 1

The first intake happened in December 2014 with 140 people submitting applications to be part of the program. From this 45 people were selected in gaining the opportunity to acquire tickets and accredited skills training.

Training was delivered between 9 - 30 January 2015 by the Adelaide College of the Arts, TAFESA Tonsley, TAFESA Mount Barker, Access Training Centre and Legacy Training. Participants gained the following tickets and accredited skills training:

• Operate Elevated Work Platforms (Yellow Card)
• Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card)
• License to Operate a Forklift
• Provide First Aid
• Apply general knowledge of staging to work activities
• Apply generak knowledge ofsound/lighting

Group 2

The second training intensive had very competitive interest again. From the application process 35 people were selected to attend the training intensive between 13 April - 1 May 2015.
This round of training was held at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Adelaide and delivered by Staging Connections, Access Training Centre and HITsa. Participants gained the following tickets and accredited skills training:

• Operate Elevated Work Platforms (Yellow Card)
• Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card)
• A License to Operate a Forklift
• Provide First Aid
• Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA)
• Introduction to general staging within a function venue setting
• Introduction to lighting, sound and AV

Both training intensives provided participants with the opportunity to network with and hear from industry leaders (panel sessions),  participate in practical on-site orientations as well as receive assistance in seeking employment in the events and related industries.

Outcomes

We have had 85 participants complete a ticket and or accredited skills training and 53 people have gained employment or increase their hours of work within the events and related industries. Additional to the employment outcomes we have also had several secondary outcomes for volunteering, work experience and further study.

Service Skills SA would like to thank all organisation and employers involved who have supported the project. There have been approximately 30 events organisations who have been actively involved in this project.
