March 2008 – October 2008

Overview

The Multiskilling project was created to address a potential shortage of security staff due to toughened SA licensing laws which ruled almost half of the 7000 previously licensed security personnel in South Australia ineligible. The collective of project facilitators consisting of Food Tourism and Hospitality Skills Council (FTHSC), Weslo (a major security provider in SA), Service Skills SA, Strategon, TAFESA and DFEEST worked together to help immediately recruit, train and license 200 security staff within a tight timeframe.

The Project phases included:

  1. Project establishment
  2. Employer engagement
  3. Participant engagement
  4. Screening & selection
  5. Review of framework fundamentals
  6. Assessment, gap training & case management
  7. Work placement / employment
  8. Monitoring and evaluation

This process gave participants the accredited key entry skill sets in retail and hospitality as well as the necessary qualifications and licence to work in the security industry.
