Intensive o1
The first Skills for Creative Events training intensive gave participants the opportunity to acquire forklift and boom-type elevating work platform tickets, OHS Whitecard, Senior First Aid and selected participants undertook a dogging course to gain their dogging ticket (which is a pre-requisite for basic rigging). TAFE SA delivered the following accredited modules as one day workshops from the Certificate 3 in Events course: Provide event staging support, Develop and update event industry knowledge and Work with colleagues and customers.
Participants now have the opportunity of completing this Certificate with a combination of further study and/or Recognised Prior Learning. There was also a day full of various industry knowledge seminars so participants received a good overview of the sector and the opportunities it can offer. The training offered also enables participants to work in other areas outside of events – as the very nature of events work is casual, or short term.
25 participants undertook the first training intensive, five of whom were Aboriginal who underwent an additional week of pre-employment non-accredited training with Access Working Careers prior to the creative-events intensive. Over 75% have successfully completed the training and the majority of participants are currently working or studying.
60% of participants said completing the intensive helped them secure work 83% of participants said completing the intensive enable them to undertake more duties and / or have more responsibility than they otherwise would have and it has assisted them with their work 82% of participants will continue to seek work in the creative events sector and intend to complete further training or study in this area 100% of participant’s value the training they have received and also think prospective employers will too.
The Friday session was very good and the group seemed to really enjoy the session and all participated in the discussions well. There are a lots of good people in that group and I see a big potential for many of them in events in the future and see all of them being valued members of crews on upcoming events in Adelaide. Thank you for the opportunity to work with you and this group and I hope we can do more with this type of project with you in the future. Tiny Good, Director, Showtech Australia
I'd just like to thank you for the opportunity and for such a brilliant experience. It's really helped broaden my horizons, to use an old cliché. I've learned a lot about aspects of the industry I never even thought existed, and have a better idea of where I'd like to fit in it. Most of all, I feel more confident to go out and do things, still within the arts but as more of an active participant than an idle artist. I also now know driving a forklift is freakish good fun.
